This recipe for handmade Maltese stromboli combines all of the taste of pizza with the convenience of a warm dough pocket. Make one in less than an hour tonight!

Ingredients

  • 1 Acqua&Farina Pizza dough
  • 1 cup grated fior di vita mozzarella, divided
  • your choices of 2 different salamis
  • 1 cup cooked Maltese sausage
  • 2 tbsp sun-dried tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley
  • 2 tablespoons freshly chopped basil
  • 1 egg

Instructions

1

Preheat oven to 200°C.

2

Roll out the pizza dough

3

Place 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese onto dough, leaving 1-2” from each side free of toppings.

4

Add a layer of salamis and sausage.

5

Add another 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese and top with sun-dried tomatoes and a tablespoon each of parsley and basil.

6

While folding in the sides and keeping everything tight and compact, roll up the stromboli along the long side to form a tight roll.

7

Whisk together the egg with a tablespoon of water. Brush the egg mixture over the strombolis and cut several slits across the top for steam to escape.

8

Bake stromboli for 20-25 minutes or until deep golden brown.
