This pie is delicious! A family favourite for many Maltese families. It’s yummy and pretty easy to make too! Best served fresh, but you can also make ahead and freeze or refrigerate.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp golden drop olive oil
  • 2 rashers streaky bacon
  • 350g minced beef
  • 350g minced pork
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 100g fresh peas, cooked
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • salt & pepper
  • Aqua & Farina Pasta Sfoglia
  • 2 hard boiled eggs sliced
  • 400g spinach
  • pinch of mixed spice
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan

Instructions

Fry the onions in the olive oil

Add the bacon and the minced pork.

Cook for 15 minutes then add the beef and tomato puree. Stir until the meat turns golden brown.

Stir in the peas.

Add the beaten eggs and seasoning.

Roll out the pastry and use it to line a greased oven-proof dish.

Add the cold meat mixture and the sliced hard boiled eggs.

Place a layer of spinach on top then cover with the other pasta sfoglia pastry

Glaze the pastry with beaten egg.

Bake at 200C for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
